Yu Rock Misija - Za milion godina
YU Rock Misija (meaning, in the Slovenian, Bosnian, Serbo-Croatian and Macedonian languages, Yugoslav Rock Mission) was the contribution of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the famous Bob Geldof's Band Aid famine relief campaign which culminated with the historical Live Aid concert on July 13, 1985.
Beside the British "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and the corresponding USA for Africa projects, many other countries also joined Geldof's campaign, including: Canada, West Germany, Austria, Norway and many others.
SFR Yugoslavia was not an exception. The elite of the Popular music in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia gathered and formed a Yugoslav Band Aid group called YU Rock Misija. The group recorded a charity song which was released as single and also filmed a corresponding video. The group included following musicians:
They recorded the Yugoslav Band Aid song "Za milion godina" (For a Million Years), which is still considered as an evergreen in the former Yugoslav countries. The song was written by former Generacija 5 leader Dragan Ilić and Mladen Popović The guitar solo in the song is played by Vlatko Stefanovski.
Prominent artists who openly refused to take part in the Yugoslav Band Aid were Bora Đorđević, the leader of the cult band Riblja Čorba and Goran Bregović, the leader of Bijelo Dugme.
